If Circuit City seems to have the D90 listed already, Best Buy can’t wait too long! Best Buy has the same specifications for D90, just like Circuit City. Time to start saving $1300, as it will be available on September 7.

Here is an interesting beginning of a guide coming up about Nikon D90

“Nikon D90. At 12 MP, and with the list of cool features I outline below, the D90 serves three purposes in the Nikon line.  It’s easy enough to use to serve as a first dSLR, and won’t overwhelm anyone who wants to move slowly into more advanced features.  And yet, those features are in there, ready for you when you’re ready for them.  It also makes a great upgrade from the D80, and works as a backup camera for those with a D300 or other more advanced Nikon body.  Other than the flexibility you get with the D300’s four Shooting banks/four Custom Setting banks, you don’t lose much by going with the D90.  I’ll know more when I can compare sensors and high ISO image quality between the D300 and D90. I expect to see the D90 sell for about $999 with the 18-55mm VR lens, which makes it only about $50 more than the current price of the D80 with that lens.  If you read on, you’ll see just what you get for that extra fifty bucks. ”

Is this the real D90, expected to be released at Photokina this year?
Real or fake? Can’t tell. I see the GPS, microphone holes, so, if the D90 label was photoshopped, what was the base camera to start with?

Nikon D700 does to Nikon what the 5D did to Canon at the moment it was released: puts a full frame, ‘FX’ format sensor into a more compact body and at a much lower price. Along with being smaller and lighter than the flagship D3, it’s also comfortably cheaper, making the D700 Nikon’s first ‘affordable’ full-frame DSLR. Like Canon’s EOS 5D, this puts it within reach of well-heeled enthusiasts who demand excellent performance at high sensitivities, along with pros looking for a backup body.

We were all curious, the moment it was rumored, about how it would perform when compared to the much more expensive and feature-packed D3. Cameralabs.com does the comparision for us, providing full resolution samples at high ISO speeds. Follow the read link for more.

Nikon D700 vs Nikon D300 vs Canon EOS 5D High ISO Noise

To compare noise levels under real-life conditions we shot this scene with the Nikon D700, Nikon D300 and Canon EOS 5D within a few moments of each other using each of their ISO settings in Aperture Priority modes. The lenses on each camera were adjusted to deliver the same field of view.

The D700 and D300 were fitted with the same Nikkor AF-S 14-24mm lens, set to 24mm on the D700 and 16mm on the D300. The Canon EOS 5D was fitted with the Canon EF 17-40mm set to 24mm. The lens focal lengths were fine-tuned so the field-of-view was exactly matched.

All three bodies were set to their best quality JPEG modes with default settings for image processing and noise reduction. As such, both Nikons were set to Large Fine JPEG quality (optimised for quality), with Auto White Balance and the default Standard Picture Control, Normal High ISO NR and Active D-Lighting switched off. As we all drolled enough over the press shots on Nikon D700, it was highli expected to see it shipped and ready for action. Seeing someone unbox this full-frame beast on video is another experience entirely (bordering on spiritual, really). Video is just two minutes long and shows pretty well the content of the box, and that’s about it! No camera action yet. Still, a good reason to click through, especially is you enjoy old school, silent movies.

The Italian group HAL9000 that specializes in art restorationa and preservation has used a Nikon D2X to create an ultra-high resolution composite of an Italian fresco. The 9.85 Gigapixel final photo, which is viewable online at full resolution, represents the ceiling of a church in Rome. This is a stunning example of the use of stitching to create photos with incredible detail.

 Some technical data:

  • A total of 1188 frames
  • Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED AF VR used @ 400mm for all frames)
